Newly diagnosed?

We’re here to help.

We know how overwhelming a diagnosis of adrenal disease can be. We’ve assembled some helpful resources to get you started on your journey to living an informed and supported life as you manage your disease.

First Steps for the Adrenal Insufficient Patient

Get a routine.

Steroid replacement dosing is critical to your safety. Set up a plan to remember to take your medications daily, like a medication box, a reminder app for your smart phone, or a calendar. Order refills early so you don't run out.

Educate your support network.

Share your knowledge and the NADF's resources with your support network. Show them how to give an emergency injection and when to do so.

Get medical alert jewelry.

Have medical alert jewelry engraved with “Adrenal Insufficiency: Needs Stress Dose Corticosteroids”. Wearing this at all times will help to protect you in case of an emergency.

Join a support group.

NADF has support groups across the country as well as national groups that hold regular virtual meetings.

Prepare an emergency kit.

You will need an emergency dose of injectable hydrocortisone, the needle to administer it, and an alcohol swab for your skin. Keep a kit available while traveling or when emergency care is not readily available. Instructions for administering an emergency injection of SoluCortef can be found here.

Live a full life.

When you stick to stress dosing guidelines, your life is yours to live to the fullest.

Request your emergency wallet cards.

NADF offers free emergency wallet ID cards and emergency injection cards printed on durable paper to carry with you wherever you go. Request your printed copy and/or download a digital copy here:
