PEDIATRIC ADRENAL INSUFFICIENCY ACTION PLAN WITH PICTOGRAMS

Health information related to adrenal insufficiency can seem unfamiliar and complicated. Instructions can feel overwhelming to caregivers and are often presented in ways that make it difficult to understand and act on. When Dr. Patrick Reeves at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center reached out to NADF about improving pediatric adrenal insufficiency literacy using pictograms, we were excited to help.
The objective of the tool is to improve parents' and clinicians' ability to fully comprehend and take appropriate medical action for children with adrenal insufficiency. The new Action Plan tool can be viewed here: https://bit.ly/WRMC_pictograms.

NOTE: Not all EMS teams carry SoluCortef, so it's important for patients to always have a supply of your own on hand, especially when travelling.
Our hope is that this tool, along with the video instructions for patients and clinicians, will help improve understanding and improved outcomes for children diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency.

TESTIMONIAL FROM NADF MEMBER:
"I would like to say that the pediatric tool and survey for AI is fantastic!! As you know, I am the caregiver/mother of an Addisonian. He had recently become ill with strep throat. Even with it being a minor infection, he was unable to hold down his meds. The protocol for AI not only helped me recognize that he wasn't acting right, but he was unable to keep meds down. Due to this tool, I was able to act swiftly, and avoid a crisis completely. Truly a tremendous help."
